Workshop Organization Ideas

All Posts, Inspiration and Ideas, Workshop Storage and Organization

The cost of being disorganized is time. It takes me ten times as long to work on a project when I am scouring the room looking for a drill bit, the right screws, or trying to remember where I last used one of my 10 tape measures. Workshop organization is an ongoing project. As you acquire more tools, you have to rearrange your shop to work in storage for those new items. So mobile and modular storage, wherever possible will save you time down the road. Here are some amazing Workshop Organization Ideas that I hope will inspire you!

Workshop Organization Ideas

A good base of stationary cabinetry in addition to mobile storage is great if you have the space. This is my own garage workshop, right after I built the cabinets.

I’ve since added tons of drawer storage organization with lots of removable, sliding bit storage trays.

I also love the functionality of this vertical drawer storage organization.

If you don’t have an entire room to dedicate to your workshop, there are many freestanding units that are neat and functional.

Or build this narrow lumber and scrap wood storage cart if it fits your space better.

This portable tool storage cart has built in storage for an air compressor in addition to nail guns, drills, clamps, screws, nails and everything else you generally need at hand on the jobsite.

Sawdust 2 Stitches built this ultimate storage, assembly, and table saw outfeed table! It’s got a hidden air compressor in there too!

Wall storage

Sure, there are companies who will install an entire wall storage system for you, but the price can be exorbitant.  You can achieve organization without great expense. This wall storage option is a wall of pegboard like I did in my workshop.

I think you can see from all of these choices, the best solution is the one that works for YOU and your home. Just make sure you create an environment that makes you feel creative and excited to work. And while there are amazing workshops online for inspiration, don’t go crazy thinking your work area needs to be a renovation in and of itself! Use bits and pieces of inspiration, then get going on your projects!

Thanks Katie! You two are always so busy with projects it’s hard to make the workshop a project, too! 🙂

I love all of these organizing ideas. Jessica, I”m going to give your tool caddy a try. Thinking of adding a heavy duty handle and space in the middle to place my 6 foot lever and such items.

Thanks for all the great ideas.

This is just a list of photos and not an in-depth article on anything. I could look through pinterest for a more fascinating glance at woodshop storage than this article.
You didn’t even get the point (excitement) of the wall storage system (which you would hand build so it would NOT be expensive at all) is that it’s based on a french-cleat system so you can add/adjust everything on there! create more, get what you need where you need it, and super simple to make.
    thumbs down.

Hey, I want to build all of these (and I did read to the end), but my list of projects is so long that any one of these will have to wait ’til next year (and i don’t mean January). thanks for all these ideas. there is one more i read about in the Handy Family Man. It is an adaptation to your shop vac that puts the hose at your project so it sucks up the dust as it is produced. Wonderful, right? Maybe next year!

Before switching to synthetic oils however, ensure that your car’s , truck, bus or SUV’s warranty ( and also dealership’s
extended warranties) ( that is if they still are in
force and apply), are not voided by the less frequent mileage intervals that
synthetic oil changes afford. Prompt engine fluid checkups
are highly possible with the use of an efficient oil analyzer, which enables
mechanics to easily assess and determine whatever engine problems need fixing.

Due to the hike in food, fuel prices and unavailability of credit, people trim down the expenses of their basic
    necessities as well.
