Goodbye Chicago, we’re going to miss you!

All Posts, Personal

We have officially moved out of our Chicagoland home and all our belongings are in storage in Tennessee until we can find a new house to buy.

It’s weird, a little sad and kind of exciting!

Moving was fairly uneventful.  Maddie and I were pretty bored for the first two days.  We lounged on the sofa and watched movies all day,

while the movers packed up all our belongings.

On the third day, the movers loaded up the sofa and everything else in the house!  (COMFY!)

And then they made their way into the garage!

This is what it looked like AFTER everything that was going was packed onto the truck!

We sent some stuff to Goodwill, gave some to friends, returned some ($$ Yipee)  and then put an ad on Craig’s List and left the rest in the driveway.

My neighbor called me yesterday and told me everything was gone!  So glad all this didn’t end up in a landfill.

I swept the floors and then we said goodbye!

It still doesn’t feel final.  I suppose that will come in time.

We’re enjoying exploring our new home state.  It’s beautiful and we’re excited to create new routines and traditions here.

Now, we just have to keep searching for a new house, one that needs some work to keep me busy and happy but not so much that the family will be miserable living through the transformation.

We’re all getting really antsy in this apartment.  I start drooling now whenever I look at design magazines or go through my Pinterest files.

Sandra with the house empty it really shows off your all your wood workmanship, what a great post for your resume! I’m so looking forward to watching the next episode when you do find that ‘needs serious TLC’ house.

Even I miss your craft room! And I didn’t live in it! Heck, I don’t even know you! But OMG, how I wish I had your ex-house…

My wish is to find a house that is equally functional and just as ugly as this house used to be so I can stay busy for another 5 years.

Sandra! I’m so sad looking at the empty house photos! I’ve never moved out of a place that I couldn’t go back to visit and that is on my horizon this year when we build our new house. How do you do that? How do you leave all your hard work? 🙁 Miss talking to you but can’t wait to see what’s going on house-wise in TN! 🙂
I hope you find something soon!

It’s not easy to leave all that work behind, especially considering I did it all for free and then some! But, I’ve been getting used to the idea for 6 months now! When your turn comes, you’ll get through it, Kristi. You’ll have to. When necessity calls for it, we generally come through! 🙂

Happy to hear you are all moved out and ready for your new adventure. How are you liking TN so far? Are the houses priced better than here in Chicago?

We are really enjoying TN. It’s HOT though! But we’ve been hot before (AZ and LA) so we’ll get used to it. The houses in the area we are looking in are all over the place. Some are way overpriced and some are a good price but not for the location. It is going to be difficult to get everything we want. Now, we just have to decide which items we are willing to compromise on. Our “New house must have…” list is getting very short!

Aw, Sandra… it makes me a little sad to see that lovely house (and all the work you put into it) all empty-like. I hope the new owners appreciate how fabled the House that Sandra built has become!

So glad you sold it, though… and now… on to new adventures!

I like that – “The House that Sandra Built”! Although I didn’t actually build the house. But yes, on to new adventures!

Adventures in sewing, crafting, baking, bike riding, yoga…what else can a gal keep herself busy with until she finds another house to “build”?

Wow, what an amazing job you did on the house…I don’t think I could leave it behind after all that hard work. But it sounds like you’re ready for you next adventure, and I look forward to your glorious transformations. Best of luck with the house hunting, and enjoy exploring your new surroundings.

You are amazing! The people moving in to this house are some very lucky new homeowners. I wish the girl who had moved out of the house I just bought cared even 10% as much as you did.

girl, welcome back to the South. 🙂 I decided I’m never going North again, it’s too cold and too expensive.

anyway, can’t wait to see what you find to live in (lol, sounds like I’m expecting a shed or cardboard box). I know that feeling of looking for a house that needs work but isn’t a miserable dump. It’ll come…at least the anticipation is building up. for me at least 🙂

Congrats on wrapping up that chapter!

My jaw kinda dropped looking at your pictures of how you left your Chicago house… I have moved many, many times, and I WISH someone would have left the place in that nice of shape even ONCE! You all are so considerate. 🙂

Your house is stunning also without furniture. You made a great job.
I wish you to find a new house early so you can start new projects.
    Have a nice weekend.
