I told you I’d share my favorite tools, gadgets and supplies as I put everything away in my new workshop. I have to confess, I didn’t get passed filling up the pegboard before I had to detour to take advantage of Wes going out of town for a week. (I try to do major demo when he’s gone because he hates living through it … and I’m just considerate like that! Ha.)
First up: Glue supplies. I’ve tried a few other brands but Titebond is my favorite glue for the kind of “Woodworking” I do.
The Original has a pretty fast dry time and the Titebond III gives you a little more “work” time which is good if you’re gluing up a large surface. You don’t want it drying before you’re ready!
I don’t use any fancy spreading wheels or brushes, just my finger (for small surfaces) and a small silicon spatula (for larger areas). Pick one up at the dollar store next time you’re there…you’ll be glad you did!
I squeeze out a puddle of glue.
Then spread it out with the spatula.
Then you let the glue dry on the spatula. After it’s dry, bend it …
the glue cracks and you peel it off.

I don’t find myself gluing up large slabs of things face to face very often. Can’t think of the last time I did.
Most of the time, it’s edge gluing, biscuits, mortise/tenon or dowels. For those situations, a disposable brush or my finger works best. Rockler just released a new silicone brush that makes the metal handled disposables a thing of the past. Not $1 spatula cheap but cheaper than disposables in the long run.
Don’t be tempted to use silicone basting brushes as their bristles and overall size tend to be much bigger.

Hi, I really enjoy your DIY posts and was wondering what is your favorite source for those great powder-coated peg board baskets? and any other board accessories that you’ve found helpful? There are so many online that look cumbersome and some are just ugly!
Thanks! Laura in Virginia
