While I was mudding the patched hole I made for the outlet in the built-in hutch, I went ahead and skim coated the walls in the entry hallway as well. Since tearing out the door headers made the “kitchen entry” walls extend down the hall meaning that I’m now making over the “Kitchen Entry Hallway”.
This is what I consider the “kitchen entry”.
This is the “Kitchen Entry Hallway”.
At the end of the hallway is a room (that will someday be an office) and then another hallway off to the right.
The room was an open space when we bought the house. I called it the Second Dining Room. But it was in a secluded corner of the house and had no real purpose as an open area. It would be a perfect office though if I closed it off. So that’s what I started to do…
I framed some walls, one housing a pocket door. Then I slapped up some drywall. I intended to install wood planks on the other wall. They would be installed right on the studs on the new half of the wall and over the drywall on the old half (that was already drywalled).
But some other project took priority so I never got to installing the wood planks. It’s been open like this ever since. Rooms that we don’t use as part of our “den” are a problem — when they don’t have walls or doors to close them off from the dogs. Brody doesn’t poop in the house but Bella is another story. If we leave doors open or don’t put gates up she sneaks in and poops! It’s really ridiculous and disgusting. We generally use gates to confine the parts of the house she can get to but sometimes they get left open (because I’m hauling materials in or out).
So, since I’m working on the Kitchen Entry Hallway n ow, I’m putting some drywall up and getting the pocket door installed!
Just as soon as I fix the creaking — pocket door frame!
Up Next Day 5
Start at the beginning: Day 1

I keep telling hubby that I’m gonna tear up the whole house before I put it all back together!

That’s good that you’re preparing him properly. Setting expectations. 🙂

I hope it stops somewhere! Looks good. Maybe you just “needed” (ha!) a tiny little change of pace from upstairs? Yeah, famous words – what I said – “All I wanted was a new throw rug…”

heehee. It was kinda fun to work in a new area (for a few days). I’m ready to be done but at the same time there are so many little details that really need to be addressed or I’ll just be back in this area again at some point. Getting it DONE (hopefully).
