Madison and I finished installing the office floors yesterday. Yeah!!! Even though I’m not a fan of red oak flooring, it looks much better than the carpet (and is better for everyone’s allergies) — so I’m happy.
Installing narrow plank flooring is a LOT of work and it takes 4EVER to make any progress. Wes and I agree that we will NEVER choose planks under 5″ in the future. We wouldn’t have chosen these at all but we’re matching what is already covering almost the entire first floor.
You do what you gotta’ do.
It was a great opportunity to give Madison some tool lessons. I gave her my whole schpeel and then watched her made a few cuts and then let her bring out the wood and cut it on her own.
**I secretly watched her through the window on her first 3 solo cuts — because she still feels like my little girl and it’s hard to let her do something that she could possibly get hurt doing.. BUT I reminded myself that SHE WILL BE DRIVING A CAR IN LESS THAN A YEAR and I better start trusting her ability to follow safety and operation instructions and use her common sense.
She rocked both the miter saw and the flooring nailer!
That’s my girl!
…now we just have a few touch-ups to make on the walls. Wes and I both left a couple lovely dings! Madison is off the hook for these beauties.
It’s an opportunity for me to teach her another skill though so I’m not hatin’. 🙂

Love the floors. Can you give the details: store, cost, (I already know red oak and prefinished). Thanks, it will help loads. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music

Your daughter is “fierce”. Congrats on having such an amazing kid. I hope my girls are a fraction of yours and will tackle any task without fear standing in their way. Great job on the project so far.

Looks good!
I’m playing hooky today and tomorrow to work on a few projects myself!

With you as her “mama” Madison will turn out (and probably already shows this) confident, fearless, and a strong woman! I agree–you have to keep the flow of the red oak going. It would look more silly to have a different wood than a flooring you are not too fond of. Thank goodness for pretty, and (sometimes) inexpensive, natural area rugs. They will fix that problem!

The floors look great! Love seeing a finished project to get me pumped up to do ours. My dad was teaching me to use the big tools when I was in Jr High. I am so glad too. Great knowledge to have 🙂

love that Madison got to help, hopefully she really enjoyed it and it wasn’t just another chore for her to do. The floor looks great!
