Built-in Office Cabinets

Cara C.

My built-in office cabinets. are. done!!!!   So, remember when you gave birth and you were like, “I am never going to forget how my body felt”, and then three short months later, you totally were on board to possibly have another and go through it all again?? Yeah, it’s about the same after building a massive desk and office.

Built-in Office Cabinets- https://sawdustdiaries.com

In all seriousness, I am so glad I started with the hardest project in my house, because now all of the others seem small in comparison. I think I just need a small break before tackling my next build! I started this project in April and between working full time and traveling for my job, and kid activities, and summer vacations, I finally finished. Can I just say, I love how it turned out and can’t wait to unpack all of our stuff and fill those bookcases?!

As a little surprise, I am not even sure that Sandra knows that I added a corkboard wall and desk grommets for electrical cords, but I did and I think it will be very useful.  Here is all 23′ of desk and our beautiful office  furniture!

If you want to see how these built-in office cabinets came together read my Sawdust Diaries here:

This whole experience has been a wonderful one.  Sandra has the patience of a saint!  Thank you Sandra for sticking with me to the end!

Read Cara’s full Sawdust Diary story: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, part 7, and you can get the free plans for the Cara Collection Office Furniture Built-ins here:

I love Cara’s room!  It is beautiful, functional and pure awesomeness.   I am proud to have been a part of this DIY journey. ~Sandra

So, so, so beautiful! What an amazing job you did!! You should be extremely proud of yourself! And I love the turquoise wall on the end! (And I love that Sandra is posting the plans – that is above and beyond what I would expect but super appreciative of it!). So much to love!

Cara this is truly amazing. I can’t believe it. I think back to those first diary entries when you were trying to cut your sheet goods down for the first time and I’m impressed that this same gal was able to do such professional grade work. I hope you are reaching over and patting yourself on the back every chance you get cause you did an amazing job.

OMG…. YAY FOR YALL! I’m so very impressed. Giant, huge amount of work! And looking to cute doing it with your dimples and pink toolbelt!!!! My husband got me a pink/black tool set & bag for my birthday and is still grumbling about ‘pink freakin’ tools’. I don’t care, I toss my hair and go back to my power tools and pink hand tools smiling away. Seriously though? You have inspired me to at least try one bookcase! Thanks so much for sharing your diary and great job.

The end product is nothing short of amazing! It is better than anything I have ever seen done before, more so because I saw how easy each step was. My compliments and respect to your abilities.

I am not clear how you assembled the drawer fronts or attached the drawer glides. Did I miss something somewhere? I am ready to begin my own built-in in my spare room, but I hesitate until I can see the drawer fronts and their assembly. Can you help?

Good thing about built-in office furniture is it could be used as a storage solution and as a décor. You have done a great job with this one. Keep posting!

This is awesome. You did a great job. I really would love to build something similar. A Media Wall -floor to ceiling for my TV, storage, shelves with stone top etc.
I’m based in Germany but built some cabinets using Sandra’s 101 e-book using pocket hole joinery but would love some guidance from Sandra on how to do this new project the best way as I made some mistakes the first time. @Sawdust Girl – please help !!!
