I’ve been playing in the mud this week — a lot! I’ve been taping and mudding the new Recording Studio and dealing with my new office wall.
The old wall was not plumb (level vertically) so I had two choices when installing the new pocket door wall that I framed: 1. Match the wonkiness of the old wall. 2. Install my new wall plumb and transition the difference with joint compound.
Obviously I chose option 2. Since the pocket door will hang perfectly level on the vertical plane (gravity doesn’t fudge), if the wall were not plumb, the door wouldn’t glide smoothly and could get caught up on a split jamb and be stuck completely. So I mudded…and mudded and mudded.
I still have a final skimcoat to do to make sure the wall texture on the old wall is smooth. I thought it would be fun to show you the old texture as it disappears. 😀
I’ll be glad to finish playing in the mud and get this wall finished so I can install my trim and door!
I’m still working on the pantry and a couple other rooms too. You know, because I need to bring FUNCTION to this house. I know some of you are really wanting to see the kitchen finished but I’m not doing doors and drawer fronts right now because they’re just pretty features and don’t add function. So they’re on hold…for now.
