They Say it Gets Worse Before it Gets Better!

All Posts, Tennessee House, Workshop (My), Workshop Storage and Organization

I can attest to that!  I’m making progress in my workshop.

But it’s looking a lot like it did before I started the project.

It just has cabinets now.  I installed some crown moulding this week.  I like the crown but I wanted to hide all the cleats and ceiling and back wall.

So I painted the insides dark grey with some paint I bought in the “oops” stock at HD.  I didn’t have enough and ran out here!

So I took 3 cans of all different colors that I had laying around and mixed up my own that matched well enough.  I had to do this 2 more times because I never made enough to completely finish the entire wall of cabinets!

Then yesterday I had a little fender bender dropping Maddie off at school which made me all shaky and unproductive for the whole morning.  (No one was hurt – thank goodness!)

Then the “bug guy” came out to look at some ants and a big ant nest (right next to a BIG OLD TREE) right by our house and confirmed that they are indeed Carpenter ants and the tree is infested.  Yeah!

I found a whole lot of this in the yard before I found the tree.  I guess carpenter ants are everywhere ’round these parts.

When I finally got back to work yesterday, I finished painting the cabinets and touched up my countertop with some black wax.  (Why I love distressed countertops:  Every ding just makes it look more “vintage”.)

Which brings us to this point.

I hope to finish building today.

I just have to install some pegboard (which also requires removing the outlets and installing new junction boxes…and on and on) and then get all this crap back IN the cabinets in an organized fashion.

Oh, and it’s the Hunger Games premier tonight at Midnight (Maddie is TOO crazed about this movie to NOT see it (she’s read the series about 10 times).  I’m pretty sure I’ll be asleep before we even reach the theatre but I’m “participating” for HER sake.  ‘Cause she’s SUPER DUPER excited about it!

So, I’m pretty sure tomorrow will be unproductive too as I’ll be sleeping until noon.  SO I  BETTER FINISH THIS PUPPY TODAY!  Anyone else planning an unproductive day tomorrow due to HUNGER GAMES MADNESS?

Fist bump!

Not so patient as you might think. I just use a lot of putty and caulk! Yes indeed, glad the accident wasn’t worse. I shudder to think… stepping over it and moving on now. 😀

Sandra your workspace has nicer cabinets than my kitchen!! With crown to boot! I’m just jealous, you deserve it after all you’ve built and made. Good luck getting everything ‘put away’.

Thank you Jaime. They are just boxes but the crown makes them look like real cabinets. LOL It’s starting to get exciting.

Can you tell me what the paint color is on the cabinets? I love the muted tone. Keep up the good work. My 15 year old daughter wants to see it too but it’s sold out tonight for the opening. Anyways she’s been busy with driver’s ed!

Light French Grey from Sherwin Williams. We bought our tickets a few weeks ago. I would have been happy to wait a few weeks until the theaters are less crowded…and we didn’t have to see it at midnight…because then I could actually see it instead of sleep through it. LOL

Can’t believe how nice your work space is going to be. You rock! And you rock as a mom! I just finished the book yesterday. Read it in two days so I can go to the movie! Have fun!

Aw, thanks. Seriously couldn’t put the books down. I am excited to see it too, just would have preferred to not see it at midnight. 😀

Wow! what a pretty workshop! Can’t wait to see the end results; Hunger Games! My son (who got the book from the school library) is so excited to see it, but I’m nervous; i hear it’s very violent … any insight, please share! 🙂

Supposedly the movie is more focused on the plot and not so much the gore. Hope that’s the case! I’ll let you know.

I didn’t know carpenter ants burrowed in the ground with so many nests. Be thankful they are not in the house. We used to have a huge tree about 25 feet from our house that they would climb up in and then skirmish across the electrical lines to get into our soffit at the roof line. Do you know how creepy it is to have a million of those HUGE things crossing lines above your head? *shudder* (They bite to!) It took a tremendous amount of caulk to fill in the gaps at the flashing and some good old fashioned Borax to keep them from coming in. Not to mention treating the tree where they originally came from with Amdro.

Eewww. Yes I am glad (and hopeful) they are not in the house. We have perimeter treatment so unless they are getting in from above like in your case, we should be covered.

So glad nobody was hurt. My oldest got his license last week and his own car just today. I don’t think I’m going to sleep ever again.

The workshop is looking great! I’m envious of all your storage.

    Sandra,

You are amazing! Are you going to put doors on or leave it open shelving?
