The Playroom built-in storage wall is complete. I included a nice work area that can be used as a homework center or art station. Whatever. 🙂
I said I wanted to finish it in one week. Thought it would probably take three. It really took five, but who’s counting? After wasting the last 5 days shopping for baskets, trying them out, shopping some more, trying some more and returning all the ones I didn’t want…I’m finally done!
And all the ugly plastic toys that don’t fit in any bins go in here.

WOW! You are an AMAZING (not to mention inspirational) mom!!! Will you adopt me? That is awesome! I am totally jealous and inspired at the same time! What is the white stuff? Is it laminated MDF or something? I've seen "closet shelving" at Home Depot and Lowes. Is that what it is? I just found the Knock Off Wood website and have a few projects under my belt. I was intimidated to try something this big, although that's exactly what we need. Great job, lady!
Kristi says
You are so inspiring! I don't know why I feel like I'd need Charles to do something like this. Great job!

Great job! My hub and I have been wavering about hiring someone to do built-in media shelving in our basement, but you've inspired me to figure out how to DIY. Thanks for sharing the actual timeline too. Always good to know what we're getting into. Thanks!

This is very similar to what my husband and I want to do! Thanks for posting! I wondered if you might share what you used for the building materials. Is that a laminated MDF? If so where did you find it? Thanks in advance for any guidance 🙂

The Family of Logo says
I found this post featured on Making the World Cuter and wanted to stop by to see what else you've done and share my comment with the writer. My husband and I have been pondering a living room remodel for a while now but can't seem to find a contractor to build a custom "wall" for our TV & such that can be built around the existing fireplace (that we never use). We may just have to take some pointers and do it ourselves now that we've got the inspiration! Thanks so much!!
Lauren says
Completely envious of this… and wishing I had the skill to duplicate it! I'm linking to this in my own playroom post today if it's alright with you!
Queen Of The Castle says
I totally want to be you when I grow up. wondering where you ended up getting your containers. I need some for some cubby shelves i have and can't find any (especially clear ones). Do you have a favorite place to shop for them?
One Life Many Journeys says
I have always wondered if there was something wrong with me because I go into projects with an idea of how I want if but never a real drawn draft. You know…design as you go. Now that I have looked at your projects and realized that great work can happen on the fly, I will refuse to be teased about not having a true plan! Great work!! I want one in my craft room JUST LIKE IT!
Audra says
I am curious as to what type of wood you use? Are those precut shelves with the laminate?Am LOVING all of your projects-such an inspiration!
shelly @ the familyblt says
This is really coolio!

Wow, great job! Your Mom uploaded your link to my "Crafting Spaces" Linky Party today over at my blog: http://debsheartandhome.wordpress.com/2010/09/23/crafting-spaces-link-up/I appreciate her sharing your hard work with us! It turned out beautiful – enjoy :')
Betty819 says
Is that contractor for hire? Those white bookcases are to die for..were they already there and you painted them or did your contractor build them too? I have a bookcase unit that we've had for probably 25 yrs. by Sauder and it's an Oak finish and I want to paint it white so bad but my husband doesn't think it will take paint because of the finish on it. Right now I'm at a lost for the right words to describe it but maybe some of you have had experience in painting the pre-fab furniture kits and can respond or give me your opinion. All our furniture is Dark cherry wood, Queen Anne Sytle and I'm getting so tired of it. I want to paint it white.
Lindsey says
Wow! I really want to do something like this for my kids playroom! I have been looking at target, wal-mart and ikea for shelving but I have always thought that I could build something much nicer for less money. I just don't know how or where to start. Could you help me? I really think I will enjoy doing a project like this! [email protected]

Wow!! You’re a superstar! I think I might do the wall unit but for a different application; dining room wall unit for china. As for the magnetic board that would work in the kitchen too… 😉
