‘da broiler

While we’re on the subject of kitchen planning…

I’ve gone back and forth on the subject of double ovens.  I had one in my first house and thought I hardly ever used both at the same time.  So in my next house I just did a single.  Then on many occasions in that house — I wished I had a double.

I tell you what — anything would be better than this piece of crap!

The Broiler 2

I want a double electric oven in this house.  Gas cooktop.  I like the dual fuel functionality.

When we bought this house, there was no oven at all and we bought the cheapest oven we could find because we knew we would be reconfiguring the whole kitchen at some point.
I thought I had at least purchased a dual fuel oven…I did not.

Who ever thought putting a broiler on the floor was a good idea?  That’s what I’d like to know.

The Broiler 4

I guess there’s no other place to have a broiler on a gas oven.  The flames are on the bottom of the oven and if you want to toast the top of something you have to put that something below the flames.

Whether  I eventually get one or two electric wall ovens in this house — anything would be better than this.

  1. Just to let you know… there are gas stoves out there with the broiler oven on the TOP!. I have a Maytag Gemini, with five burners and a top broiler. No more getting on my knees to use the broiler!

I thought I wanted a double oven but I read so many people saying it wasn’t really worth it – plus I couldn’t figure out how to put it in my kitchen without messing up my floor plan. However, I do have a dual-fuel range – propane stove-top with electric convection oven and I love it so far (well, truth be told, I have yet to use the cook top since the propane has yet to be hooked up). But the oven is WONDERFUL and it seriously broils in about 1 minute or less! So fast. And I also have no bottom drawer, which I love because I hate them. It has these lovely ball-bearing racks which literally roll out and in so smoothly, it is heavenly. (Electrolux Icon is what we went with).

I have to tell you that I actually laughed out loud at Stephnie B’s comment that her double oven has become her best friend because of all the use it gets. Ha, Ha, Ha, I have lived in this house for almost fifteen years, and still have not formally introduced myself to my oven!! But, the other day when I was running the little Swiffer Duster thingy over the top and around those black circle things (there’s four of them-two different sizes), I did say a quick, “Hi”. Amazing how different we all are!!

  4. I have a double oven and will never go back to a single. One is convection and one is a standard. It doesn’t get any better! Love them!

  5. Funny! Do the double oven. I had one and didn’t really ever use/need it. It was a nie luxery we may have used on Thanksgiving. But when my Gourmet Cook mother-in-law came to visit she was in heaven! If you have had both and want two–get two. You are Sandra and if you want two, you get two, gosh darn it!
