Our first task for Calderwood Cottage demo day 2 was to tear down the ceiling. Julie had the great idea to punch it down from above rather than pull it down from below and have all that old insulation fall down on us. So Julie suited up, and went to work punching down all the ceiling drywall.
Calderwood Cottage -Demo Day 2
We used snow shovels to scoop it into large construction garbage bags. We packed as much insulation into each bag as possible by using a 5 gallon bucket to smoosh. Then we’d shovel more in, smoosh then shovel… In the end, there were probably 50 bags of insulation. We put a “free” add on Craig’s list and people were happy to come get it.
All of the house but the kitchen had carpeting. After scooping up most of the insulation we cut, rolled up and removed the carpet (which also got rid of the remainder in the insulation).
All that work to get to this? Amazing attic space! And you better believe we’re going to be doing something awesome with all this space!

Sandra,
Could you include a floor plan of Calderwood cottage as it was when you bought it and then after you made any changes? I am a floor plan person and seeing these helps me understand what you are doing much better. Are you going to incorporate any sky lights?

At some point we’ll probably draw something up and then I’ll be sure to post it. It’s all in our minds as of now. LOL
