Madison’s Bedroom Re-Do

Madison’s World Map bedroom is getting a complete Bedroom Re-Do with this jack and jill bathroom remodel.   Julie and I installed plywood plank walls, planked the ceiling and added crown moulding.  I also built floating shelves and a curved desk in the niche area. (I’ll be showing you how I created that curved desk later this week.)

Bedroom Re-Do

We said goodbye to the chalkboard wall and the Pottery Barn hutch/desk.  

…and the world map subway art.

I wanted to go with white walls but I didn’t want just white painted walls.  I wanted texture.  But NOT textured drywall! I’ve worked very hard to remove ugly wall texture in this house! We planked these walls with beveled 1/4″ plywood, just like in the Jack and Jill Bathroom.

I used my laser level to TRY to make sure I maintained the same lines all the way around the room.  All four walls plus the niche.

BUT I left the niche for last just in case things didn’t pan out the way I intended…which they didn’t. By the time I made it all the way around the room, my lines had drifted up about 1/2″.  So I had to break up the niche.

I went ahead and planked the back wall, lining the planks up with the planks on the left wall.  And built my floating shelves with 2×2 ribs like I’ve shown you many times before (here, here, here, here, here ).  

I covered the right side of the niche with 1/4″ plywood and built a faux column on the outer corner.  (Check out this tutorial for how I built the column.)

Using my Graco Nova 390 airless sprayer, I primed the entire room, walls, ceiling and built-ins.

Then Julie and I spent A LONG TIME sanding and caulking.

My paint is semi-gloss, ProClassic in Decorator White from Sherwin Williams.  It took three thin coats with the sprayer to get it looking perfect.  After months of working on layer upon layer of projects for these rooms, pulling up the paper and tape was a very rewarding task.  It’s good to FINALLY see some degree of completion!
