I’m not a FAN

Want to know what I think about at O-dark-thirty when I should be sleeping but can’t because there are too many projects that I need to start and finish and I want them all done immediately but know it’ll take years?  Lately I’ve been thinking about ceiling fans.

I’ll just be blunt.  I don’t love ceiling fans.  I think they’re generally … not that attractive.   I’ll remove them from the living areas but we generally have them running at night in the bedrooms during the sweltering summer months.  (Even though the sound of the whooshing blades makes me slightly motion sick.)  It’s just too hot to get rid of them.  What are you gonna’ do?

I’ve been looking for most attractive options.

This is the one I’d buy if I were a gazillionaire!

6000 Candelabra Ceiling Fan

Yeah, you saw that right:  $6000 for a ceiling fan light!  I’m so in LOVE with it though.  To bad I’m not a gazillionaire.  🙁

This one is kind of cool.  It’s too industrial/modern for my home but my brain wants to look at it as the beginning to a DIY’d version of that first light.  I know, completely crazy!

Better prices DIY base

I just don’t know…maybe something like this.  It’s simple,and unobtrusive.

Hmmm Fan

It’s no Casablanca, but who can afford that thing?

What are your thoughts on ceiling fans?  Has anyone ever DIY’d a ceiling fan?  Is that completely crazy?  It’s getting harder and harder for me to discern the “Realistic – Crazy” ideas from the Crazy – Crazy” ones.

  1. I used to live near railroad tracks too! 🙂 I got used to the sound but it would rattle the pictures and then they’d hang crooked on the walls. LOL

I actually looked at that fan. I thought it was cool in the chrome with clear blades. Pretty modern/retro! Is that ever an oximoron!

  2. Check out the Drum Shade Fan link Lisa E linked to! It’s only $399 and it’s a drum shade over the fan (as far as I can see from the picture). I’m totally checking that one out.

  3. It’s not that our fans are loud, I can barely hear the motor at all. But with my propensity to get Vertigo and motion sickness (refer to my snorkeling in Cancun story), I can’t take much. But, we aren’t getting rid of them so I have to deal with it. I just want to like how it looks if I have to stomach how it makes me feel. LOL

  4. I’m blown away that you found this Lisa! I have to check it out. This might be the winner!!!

  5. LOL Cheese ball lights. I don’t know…that just made me laugh! We do need them in the summer. Just in the bedrooms in our house. Maybe it’s how the air is directed to certain parts of the house but I actually have to wear a light sweater lots of the time because I have goose bumps …but Wes and Madison are just fine. But when it’s REALLY hot, it’s so nice to have that cool air while you try to fall asleep.
