Well I don’t know about you but I’m glad the weekend is over! We spent pretty much the whole time packing, lifting, hauling, stumbling down flight after flight of treacherous stairs…moving all our crap out of the apartment.
But hooray, because we finished! We’ve been sleeping in our new home for a few nights. It’s so quiet…no trains…or Harley Davidson next door Saturday night ALL NIGHT party!!! Anyway, I’ve already made some changes to our new home and can’t wait to share some pics with you. Remember Maddie’s closet?
(BTW, I really appreciated all of your great suggestions!) This is how I took care of it.
We need every inch of storage space in this house and there’s like 3′ of wasted space behind that door.
I will come up with a more permanent fix later…
Right now we just need to get stuff put away. It’s a little overwhelming!
We’ve decided that the first project is the Master Closet (instead of my workshop).
It’s just useless without bars or shelves.
This is my closet until I complete that project.
But I can’t start on any projects just yet, because we are going to epoxy our garage floors before we do anything else.
Which means that we had to move everything out of the garages and into other spaces!
We are hiring a painter to do the Epoxy. Yeah! It’s too hot and I’m kinda over the Do-Everything-Myself phase. It’s a good thing to because I really need to get this house organized and put stuff away. The problem is, we don’t have anywhere to put anything away.
The problems with building built-ins in every house is every time you move, you have to build something else before you can put anything away! Maybe this time I’ll just build some freestanding bookshelves…
Probably not! They probably wouldn’t fit in the next house and I like the look of furniture that is built exactly for the spot it’s in. So this is how we live until I can get some new built-ins built!
Office
Music room/Library/Den???
Breakfast Room
Kitchen
Living Room
Guest Bedroom
It just goes on and on…
Why do we have so much crap?
What have I done with all this space? TN House – work in progress.

YAY!! So excited to see you all moved out of the apartment and into your new house! Good luck with the built-ins and I am so in your camp with that-things look nicer when the ‘furniture’ is built to fit the space.
Can’t wait to see everything come together!

That is the best collection of BEFORE photos to date. And that does make me think why do we have so much stuff? Life.

Can’t wait to see what you do with this house. It looks great to me but you have such vision and skills. Hope you get some good rest before taking it all on. Moving is exhausting in every way. Congratulations.

I’m wondering what the purpose of the paper taped to the windows is. Did you just put that up so the sunlight wouldn’t mess up the pictures? I’ve never seen that before and now I’m really curious!
Also, I looooove your dining room chairs, and I thinkg that the built-ins are absolutely, definitely, 100% worth the hassle of building them. =)

Those are just our temporary window coverings. So classy, I know!

So happy you are OUT of the apartment! 1st Mission Accomplished! Sure wish we could be there to help you put everything away, but then…you might not be able to find it again if we could! Take it easy whenever you can! xoxo Oh…by the way…I don’t know if you’ve already decided on what to use for closet rods, but you might want to check out the chrome-covered steel rods. A little pricey, but omits all the braces needed for standard wood rods and they will hold a LOT more weight…just a thought.
