Last Thursday, on a whim, Maddie and I flew out to San Diego to help my sister get her house on the market. She’s in the place I was about four months ago in terms of 1000 projects to finish and feeling the stress!
Every time I talked to her for the last few weeks, her stress level seemed to be escalating and I needed a break from house hunting so I got last minute tickets Wednesday night and we left at 4 the next morning!
So, I’m at it again! It’s daunting but we’ll finish. We are making good progress and I’m realizing how much faster everything goes with two people working and I’m feeling envious of all you who have hubbies that help you out. Not that I’m complaining … I’m just rethinking the looking for another fixer upper! Do I really want to keep doing this forever?
The Brand New House which only needs built-ins is looking more and more appealing compared to the houses that need to be completely gutted! But I’m on “Vacation”. I’m not thinking about houses or remodeling at all…just as soon as we finish the rest of this work here!
Julie has done a ton of work on her house and it’s really nice. As soon as we’re done with all this work, I”ll give you a tour. “Till then…

Can’t wait to see the final project. You really rock for helping out your sister. Really interested in what you’re going to do to the fireplace.

I am so excited to see the final project. What an awesome sister you are. I love the built in at the top of the stairs.

awesome! and yeah I feel you on the burnout. “new house that just needs creative built-ins” is more my ticket nowadays, too ! 😛

It’s great you are there helping her out. You guys have a lot of things going at once. Which is usually how I work too! Can’t wait to see more.

Oooh, I love her chandy above her table.
But SAndra, I promise even if you get the brand new house that just needs built in…you will still be doing projects. Promise. Both of our houses were new or fairly new and I always have projects on my mind of what I want to do. But the nice thing is we don’t have to do them. The house is still nice with out them. So I say go for the newer house.

That could be true unless I completely resolve not to let it be! 3 of my past houses were brand new and I tore them up and remodeled anyway. The last one in IL was the first truly ugly house we’ve purchased. We’ll see. I change my mind daily. Being here working isn’t doing much for the cause of buying ugly and improving. But, I dare say that a week after I go home I will have forgotten how much work remodeling is again and be ready for another ugly duckling. I’m driving Wes (and my Realtor) crazy with my indecision.

You are absolutely amazing!!! I don’t know how you have so much energy! Just looking at this makes me tired. She is very lucky to have you for a sister! You are welcome to join my family anytime, seriously! And as for your idea about just buying a house that needs built ins- go for it!! Nothing wrong with taking a little break!
You should get a chance to just enjoy the fruits of your labor. You work SO hard. And it is beautiful!
Sawdust and Paper Scraps says
Oh man, I don’t feel like I have enough energy and it made me tired to look at it too but we are almost done with the big jobs now. Just have to take all the boxes out and “stage”. That will be fun because there will undoubtedly be shopping involved!
Then when I get back home I’ll take a vacation! 🙂
Andrea says
Would you do that for, say, a cousin? Cause I have all sorts of vacation projects you could do, and Idaho is beautiful this time of year…
Sawdust and Paper Scraps says
I know Handy Andy doesn’t need any help from me, but I do appreciate how fun it would be to work on some projects together. Maybe you should come work on vacation projects with me in TN! I LOVE that idea! (But I’m not completely rejecting the Idaho invitation either.)

Hey..glad to know your in my neck of the
woods. I knew it wouldn’t be too long before were workin those power tools.
Take some time when your done and go visit
our zoo or go to the beach!!!!
Sawdust and Paper Scraps says
We took a break today because the sun was shining but as we got closer to the beach, it vanished. Julie and I huddled under towels while the girls dug a hole in the sand and incredibly, swam! Fair this weekend and then who knows what other fun will be had. 🙂

This is looking great!! Can’t wait to see it finished!! 🙂

Glad to hear I’m not the only one sick of looking at houses! My husband tries to preface each search by saying, “look at all the amazing projects we could do on this house”. Translation look at all the crap we never got done on our first 100 year old house that you are stuck in Washington trying to finish all by yourself… I don’t think it helps either that I just absolutely hate Colorado! Good luck in San Diego! Feel free to take a pit stop in Washington and join in on my madness! 🙂

I just went out again today and I am sooo sick of looking! The only good thing that has come of it taking so long is that my husband is more and more open to buying a total fixer upper! Although, I am pretty tired of working on big projects too. I just don’t know what to do.
