DIY Wooden Crate – Easy Christmas Advent Calendar

DIY Wooden Crate Advent Calendar

This is the wooden crate I demonstrated how to build in my Google + Hangout.  I wasn’t prepared enough to have one finished so you could actually SEE what  the finished product would look like.

That’s how things go ’round these parts.

The purpose for my crates was to hold Madison’t Christmas countdown gifts but I didn’t get it done in time so we went for the old cardboard box with chocolate behind the doors.  She loves those anyway.   It’s getting harder to find 24 (inexpensive) gifts for her now that she is a teen.  Wes asked me when we were going to stop the 24 gift tradition the other day.  Uhm.  It’s a tradition so — never!  🙂

We just might have to start using Hershey’s kisses for all the gifts.   Wonder how many days it would take for that to lose it’s excitement?

But here is my finished crate anyway…four days late.  Ha!  (Oh well.)

I should look at it this way instead:  It’s ready for next year a whole year early.  Booyah!

  1. Gum, mints, emery board/nail files, candy, little notepads/cards – shop the dollar section at Target all year round and stash away your little finds. There are some really cute items that show up in that section! The “travel size” section is another great place to find little items under $1: hand cream, lip balm, combs, etc. I always add a pack of the covered rubber bands to my daughter’s stocking – she can never have enough of them.

  2. Love it, turn it around and it’s functional year round. Nice. We ditched the little countdown probably a year ago or so, yes it was tricky coming up with treats. I’d throw in a note with a short treasure hunt (with a pack of gum at the end) to mix things up. My 14 year old hasn’t asked about it yet this year, but I bet he will be reminded of it and ask again soon…

I love it! This is going on my long, long, long list of things to do. 🙂
Better late and all that and i’m sure Miss Madison doesn’t mind a bit.

With that paint and distressed look I get a sneak peek of what my walls would look like painted. 😉
