Thank you so much for the awesome Birthday Wishes! I had a great day. As you may know, if you follow me on Facebook (and if you don’t, you should because I update my Facebook page way more often than I do on this blog and sometimes I can’t remember if I written a post about something or just told you about it on Facebook. So, click LIKETY “LIKE” there on the sidebar if you don’t want to miss out on any more of my Jaw Clenching, White Knuckle, Cliff Hanging Updates!)…where was I?
Oh yeah, as you may know, Maddie and I spend the last week in Chicago visiting friends. We flew home on my Birthday. When Wes picked us up, he and Brody were both wearing these Birthday Hats. It was HILARIOUS!!!
Wes went crazy decorating the house with Balloons, banners, twirly hangy things and had a Birthday Playlist jamming! He knew I wouldn’t love the Black “Over the Hill” theme so he made sure to have the balloons tied with HOT PINK ribbon. That guy knows me well. 🙂
He made my favorite German Chocolate Cake from scratch (from a box). LOL!
The frosting was from scratch. It was DELICIOUS!
Then I opened up…a real musical saw and a bow and a cheat. (The cheat makes it so your thumb doesn’t fall off from exhaustion!)
I mentioned before that my grandfather used to play the musical saw with a bow and that I’d played a couple notes with a mallet. That was a lifetime ago and I haven’t even thought of it again until I opened up Wes’ grandfather’s tools a couple weeks ago and ever since then I’ve had this hair-brained idea that if I had a REAL musical saw I’d be able to pick it up and play like this:
Sadly, it did not sound like that.
I’ll keep practicing. I was much better today after my second try so who knows? Maybe I will eventually be able to play: Twinkle Twinkle!

Don’t practice until after halloween. Your Trick-or-Treaters will be so freaked. On another note (pun intended) you did a great job picking a husband apparently. I applaud your husband choosing skills! I wish I had them.
Sandra says
LOL I think I could practice everyday and still be pretty sad by Halloween.
I think I got very lucky with Wes! I’m a better person because he is in my life.

Yay hooray for musical saws, birthdays, and thoughtful husbands!
p.s. I love videos because I get to hear the melodious sound of your voice. And your saw. And your husband’s “Cotton-Eyed Joe” rendition.
Sandra says
Can I say that his continually making me laugh was the reason my playing was so pitiful? I don’t think so but it was fun!
Deb-IL says
Now that was funny! Your husband is so sweet to bake that cake for you and what a cutie he is!
So what WAS that song?
Sandra says
Home on the Range. LOL

Happy birthday! Great gift! According to the July ‘Saturday Evening Post’, if you visit NYC… musical saw lessons are taught by http://www.facebook.com/pages/Natalia-Saw-Lady-Paruz-musical-saw-player/129253832734?ref=tn_tnmn who runs a big saw festival there.

If only I lived in NY. 🙂 Thanks for the Birthday wishes.
