Painting the Kitchen Cabinets

Painting the Kitchen Cabinets

I finally got around to cleaning after the kitchen remodel, so I could take some after pictures.  It still isn’t quite finished.  Someday I might get around to some window treatments and another someday new appliances.  The cabinets were nice (raised panel-classic design), just ugly so all I had to do there was paint.  I also applied beadboard and corbels to the island to give it more substance and painted the walls and molding. It’s amazing how much of a difference paint can make.

Here is it looked like before.

Painting red oak cabinets white.

See the space between the cabinet and patio door?  There was room there for a lovely garbage can if a person wanted to put one there.  I did not, so I removed the existing upper cabinet and built 2 new upper cabinets and an additional base cabinet.  Then I made one of the existing base cabinets a slide out garbage cabinet.  I built the uppers 14″ deep to fit larger items like chargers or serving dishes that don’t always fit in a standard 12″ cabinet.

kitchen makeover

This makeover was achieved by replacing the flooring, countertops, cooktop, sink, faucets, lighting and cabinet hardware and by adding a lot of  paint!

  1. LOVE it!!! We did a major addition/renovation to our home last year and it included the kitchen. We added on a nice large scrapbooking room for me and my husband installed all of the old (oak) kitchen cabinets in there. I would love to paint them white, but am concerned about how difficult of a job it is…yours looks stunning, how did you do it?

  2. Oh My! I found you through your Candleabra post at Tatertos and Jello. Your kitchen is amazing! Dh and I have been talking about painting all of our wood trim and cabinets white as well. Did you do the entire house? It looks like it from the pics but you can only see so far. We have so much wood trim but I want it all white! I think our kitchen cabinets are the same too! We are actually going to be doing our stairs in spring and were debating using white and now I know we will! How long did it take? Were the cabinets hard to do? If we paint them it will save us so much money! You are an inspiration for sure! And I adore your candleabra, going to try to make my own very soon. 🙂

  3. I love your kitchen! What a lovely job you did. Using the wasted space by the door was inspired.
