I’m not a FAN
Want to know what I think about at O-dark-thirty when I should be sleeping but can’t because there are too many projects that I need to start and finish and I want them all done immediately but know it’ll take years? Lately I’ve been thinking about ceiling fans.
I’ll just be blunt. I don’t love ceiling fans. I think they’re generally … not that attractive. I’ll remove them from the living areas but we generally have them running at night in the bedrooms during the sweltering summer months. (Even though the sound of the whooshing blades makes me slightly motion sick.) It’s just too hot to get rid of them. What are you gonna’ do?
I’ve been looking for most attractive options.
This is the one I’d buy if I were a gazillionaire!
Yeah, you saw that right: $6000 for a ceiling fan light! I’m so in LOVE with it though. To bad I’m not a gazillionaire. 🙁
This one is kind of cool. It’s too industrial/modern for my home but my brain wants to look at it as the beginning to a DIY’d version of that first light. I know, completely crazy!
I just don’t know…maybe something like this. It’s simple,and unobtrusive.
It’s no Casablanca, but who can afford that thing?
What are your thoughts on ceiling fans? Has anyone ever DIY’d a ceiling fan? Is that completely crazy? It’s getting harder and harder for me to discern the “Realistic – Crazy” ideas from the Crazy – Crazy” ones.
Hmmm, interesting. Knowing the “candles” are LED and attached to the base takes all the “fire” screaming out of my head. I do like that Eruo one too and since it’s actually affordable…
We’ll see what I end up with.
I hear you, that cool air does make a big difference. Since I’ve been on the search, I have discovered literally thousands of choices. Sadly, I’ve only found a few that I even remotely like. (and less that are affordable. I guess I just choose the one that I dislike the least. LOL)
I want cool air AND beauty. Is that too much to ask for? And not for $6000! LOL
I love the sound of my ceiling fans! We live about a mile from a railroad track and the ceiling fans dampen the train noise considerably.
Not the look you’re going for, but I think this one is cool (in the distressed koa or liquid nickel):

I absolutely think a person could do something with that type of fan. Well, YOU could anyway! I think the fans that don’t have traditional blades (like the Casablanca you posted and the Lowe’s fan I posted) have the best chance for altering. I know we’ve tried to do some altering to traditional ceiling fans and we had issues with the alterations causing the unit to be unbalanced and for the life of us we couldn’t get it back in balance. As handy as you are, I’m betting you could take something similar to the $300 Lowe’s fan and use the bones of it to make it look like the $6000 Casablanca fan! Sounds like a fun challenge!!
