How to use curtains to hide an off center window
I finally got the curtains up in my master closet! The off-center window has been driving me crazy so I had to get something up — quick! There wasn’t a chance I was going to rip out the window and move it over so I had to get creative and just trick my eyes with some visual “deception”. Here’s how to use curtains to hide an off center window.
How to use curtains to hide an off center window
I installed a long curtain rod above the window that extended over into the area where I needed to pretend the window also extended. So the curtain rod is centered in this space. I hung a curtain panel on each end of the curtain rod, pulled to the ends and only leaving a small bit of window exposed. Open the curtains any wider and you see the side of the window moulding. Depending on how large your window is and how off center it is, you might be able to open your drapes wider.
Even though there’s only a little sliver window showing, my eyes are so much happier now that I’ve tricked them into thinking the window is centered!
Where did I get what?
Chair: TJMaxx for $160
Grey Curtains: Solid Faux Silk Taffeta Platinum 108-inch Curtain Panel
Curtain Rod: Bishop/ Beaded Ball Single 50 to 96-inch Adjustable Curtain Rod Set
Why not use both sets of curtains? Put the grey on the outside and the white on the inside and a bit more bunched together. I think that’d look good. 🙂
Either way, the look great and definitely do the trick to make the window look centered. Always a predicament! 😉
I used this trick in an old bedroom to help center the bed on the wall. Love how it looks here. And the chair is amazing! Works so well here!
Ah yes, the old window centering curtains illusion. Other handy variations are floor to ceiling blinds for taller window illusion or pretend there’s a window where there isn’t one illusion. All great design tricks.
My vote is for an ottoman. It’s always seemed more traditional in a closet space and can be moved around without looking awkward when not against a wall.
Love your closet- may I move in, please? Keep the chair, it’s gorgeous and the color is perfect! How about using both curtain sets on the window instead of one color?
I love the illusion that it’s centered. And what a gorgeous chair!
