‘da broiler
While we’re on the subject of kitchen planning…
I’ve gone back and forth on the subject of double ovens. I had one in my first house and thought I hardly ever used both at the same time. So in my next house I just did a single. Then on many occasions in that house — I wished I had a double.
I tell you what — anything would be better than this piece of crap!
I want a double electric oven in this house. Gas cooktop. I like the dual fuel functionality.
When we bought this house, there was no oven at all and we bought the cheapest oven we could find because we knew we would be reconfiguring the whole kitchen at some point.
I thought I had at least purchased a dual fuel oven…I did not.
Who ever thought putting a broiler on the floor was a good idea? That’s what I’d like to know.
I guess there’s no other place to have a broiler on a gas oven. The flames are on the bottom of the oven and if you want to toast the top of something you have to put that something below the flames.
Whether I eventually get one or two electric wall ovens in this house — anything would be better than this.
Seriously!
Oh…and by the way…love your blog! We are on our third fixer upper (third times the charm? – hope so, cuz I’m not moving again!!!) Love DIY and your blog is very empowering 😉 Keep up the good work!
My house had a double oven in it when I bought it 15 years ago (it was probably original to the house)! It went out 2 years ago and you would have thought I’d lost a loved one! LOL! I searched and searched and finally found what I wanted at Sears, believe it or not! It is a double oven, all electric, self cleaning, and I LOVE IT! I may not use both ovens everyday, but I do use them frequently. Cooking for church, baking cookies, holiday and family get togethers add up throughout the year and the oven becomes my best friend!
I forked out about $1500 – which is a good deal, believe it or not! I would tell you to be careful and pay close attention to the dimensions, but since you do not have one already, I am assuming you will build a cabinet to fit. Good luck and enjoy!
In our previous house we had a gas oven (we picked it out and bought it…to replace the 1970’s brown electric, yuck)…it wasn’t cheap, but the broiler was on the inside the oven – not on the bottom- that was a warming drawer. Liked that feature… an in the oven broiler. Worked great 🙂 Now, we are in another fixer upper and the previous owner installed “new” appliances…guess what? CHEAP gas oven, with broiler on the bottom….Not good. I have four kids and cook/bake ALOT. 🙁 Hang in there with your oven!
I grew up with gas stoves. Yes, the broiler was as your’s is. For 37 years I’ve had all electric cook appliances and when the power was out for any length of time we were out of luck except to cook on the BBQ outside. Our present home has gas cooktop and double wall electric ovens. Love this combination! The builder had configured one oven with microwave above the oven and we had him replace it with the double ovens. I will always have double ovens if given the choice.
We have an oven exactly like that except ours is stainless and I absolutely HATE the broiler where it is. We’ve had it about a year. The oven that we replaced it with had the broiler inside the actual oven part so at one time at least they used to make them that way. Maybe you could still find one that does. I would never buy this type again. I’ll skip a recipe if it tells me I need to broil something just because I hate it so much. Hope you find one you love!
