As you know, I believe that molding is one of the best ways to add awesomeness to a space, but can it can be a big investment in time and money. Here’s a great idea from Studio Alta via the Huffington Post for creating a whimsical faux molding treatment that you could probably do in a day. This would be great for a child’s space, an area where you want to add a quirky vibe, or a temporary space. The possibilities are endless, think of colors, arches, and all of the faux architectural details that could be created. You could seriously go crazy with this concept!
I love how approachable this project is. I think most any one could do this because it is the hand drawn imperfections that give it it’s appeal and charm. There is definitely an artistic skill that Thomas brought to this project that may be hard to recreate for a lay person—he was really able to create a 3 dimensional effect by using different width and shade values, but I think that the treatment would be really cool even if it turned out to be more flat.

Take the photo to Home Depot or Lowes on a laptop or smart phone. They have a computer that can scan the photo and then mix the color.

Trying to think of somewhere in my house to try – it’s so cool and a well-executed Sususolution (ie my mom Susu would have tried this in her prime but not pulled it off so well).
