Reality Check

Hey there!  I thought it might be interesting for you to see what my house looks like RIGHT NOW, in the middle of two big projects.

We’ve been living like this for a while now.  I built my countertop and even cut out the sink hole and then left the whole laundry room project to collect dust…

…while I get some kind of office built.  I got my walls nice and smooth.

I got as far as purchasing a new fan and can lights this weekend but they’re still sitting in the boxes.

Because LIFE happens.  Things come up with work, people think they need to have some fun on the weekends, Dr appointments happen, I have to pick people up from school — twice, because they forget they have band practice…

Life is why DIY projects always takes three times longer than expected.  And that’s a good thing.  Because LIFE is the important stuff.

  1. It drives my husband crazy when the work doesn’t get finished because life happens! It took us almost 5 months to renovate our kids’ bathroom. But, short of a mirror door, it’s finally done! And, while he helped for some of it, i did most of it–while juggling 4 kids! Yes, he took them on the weekends out and by the end, we ate out a lot more than i’m comfortable with BUT it’s bright and cheery! Now, onto our next bathroom before we move in a month! I learned a lot and now think i can do it quicker!

  2. I have noticed over the years (dah!) that to get things beautiful/fix them up you have to make and live with a mess for awhile. However, I could not live like that all the time! But this is your love, your job…and yes LIFE happens. I saw your comment on food. I hate cooking–if I didn’t have to there would be more time for sewing! But I have kids and a husband (who is very tolerant of my repetitive, pathetic meals) so I must.

  3. I’m trying to make sure the important stuff isn’t overlooked. I really can’t stand the mess though- trying my hardest to do both! 🙂

  4. That is such a good analogy of what it feels like every time I cook or clean up. If we just didn’t need food in our lives things would be so much easier. LOL

  5. Miss you too! 🙂
