Life in the Powell household has changed once again. Two years ago we got Brody and we all love Brody to bits. We’ve been thinking it would be good for Brody to have a companion (other than our cat Maya who adopted us but because Wes and I are both allergic she has to remain an outside cat.) So we decided to bring another dog into our home and family. We hoped it would be a good decision in the long run even though we knew it would be a difficult few months transition. We brought Anabella home with us just over a week ago.
She’s a tiny little mini Schnoodle (like Brody) but she is a little firecracker! She holds her own when Brody tries to take her toy and even has the nerve to sneak in and steal away his toy or chew toy whenever she feels like it. Brody is pretty tolerant but he puts her in her place a few times a day. I have been spending a lot of time playing with them together and trying to help Brody see Bella’s entrance into the family feel like a positive thing.
I can’t say that he LOVES her yet but he’s become much more passive about having her here. For the first two days he would jump away if she tried to sniff him or if she bumped up against him. Like he thought she had cooties! He’s starting not to mind her touching him and he’s even played tug-o-war with her a few times. He’s gentle with her — except for the one time she sniffed out his treasured stuffed bone that he has hidden away for a rainy day. I did jump in to intervene that time! This parenthood gig is a tough job… 😀
Madison only has 4 days of school left and can’t wait to spend more time with Bella every day.
She is SO cute. I can’t help but love snuggling up with her. She loves to snuggle up into my neck while she naps. It’s just so flipping’ cute I’ll just lay there with her.
Bella has definitely cut into my “work time”. Obviously it’s not all playtime and potty training issues either. I’ve always loved a mid afternoon nap and find that Bella is a good excuse to take one. I’ve been doing it a lot!
I’m still making good progress on the house but I can’t put life on hold and wait until this or that project is finished until I live it. I tend to do that and have to constantly remind myself to find a balance. I’ve been the main “doggy caregiver” lately but Madison is almost out of school for the summer and then I’ll be able to have larger chunks of time to “work” because she’ll be here to make sure Bells gets outside on schedule for potty breaks. She is so tiny she has about a 5 minute window from food going in — to something coming out. We’ve learned that the hard way with more accidents than I care to admit to.
No regrets though. Bella is part of the family now and we love her.

She is a cutie! No doubt Brody and Bella will work out who’s in charge when and where…there’s always got to be a Alpha!

What a doll. Lucky you and lucky Bella. Brody will get used to her and some day they will sleep with each other, just like our dogs (3 and a cat) did. Takes time.

When we got our second dog, our first one refused to even look at her the first couple of days… now they are inseparable and have to sleep touching… although the older one still puts the younger one in her place now and then.
