A series of unfortunate events (and sneak peeks)

On Friday, Madison hosted a Halloween Party — and even though the library was not finished, I  scrambled to clean up and make the house presentable and somewhat “decorated”!

(Soooo tired having a huge plate of treats –and not giving you much of a sneak peek because that would be anticlimactic.)

That meant hauling ALL the tools, wood and supplies (some I was done with and some I wasn’t) out of the house and off the front porch down the steep driveway into the garage.

We have a handy dolly that you can turn into a “cart”.  So I loaded that baby up!

Not realizing how much weight I had put onto the cart, I grabbed the handle and started off down the hill.  Tried to start down the hill.  I couldn’t even budge the thing!  It must have weighed a ton and I noticed upon inspection that I’d given it TWO flat tires.

So I backed up the truck and re-loaded everything and hauled it down to the garage and unloaded it there.  My workout for the day!

Loading anything into my truck is a pain in the butt because some A$$hole stole our spare tire.  A tire worth what?  $200?  In doing  so, they cut the lift cable so the entire mechanism would have to be replaced which would cost around $900.  Since apparently this sort of thing is not that uncommon ’round these parts, we decided NOT to spend nearly $1000 to repair something that is so easily destroyed.  We opted to use heavy duty cables and a GIANT padlock and put the cheapest spare tire we could buy right in the truck bed.  Take that if you want it you thieven mongrels!  HA!

Then, after the party, Wes helped me haul all the stuff we still needed back up and we installed a plank ceiling and crown moulding!

(This time we went for the REAL plank instead of the faux planks like I put in my hallway.  I like this much better.)

Now all I have left to do to finish up the library is caulk, touch up paint and hang drapes.

I hope you had a productive weekend — and maybe even enjoyed a plate of goodies at a Halloween party of your own!

  1. Some people’s kids! Stealing a tire that probably won’t even fit on their own vehicle! grumble. I’m sure the party was amazing! 🙂

  2. Hi Sandra!!!

I hope the party was great!!! I just heard the $$$ amount that thieves case us every year is in the billions!!! WOW!!!!

I would make them pay back what they stole if they were caught.

I like the real plank as well!!

Have a great week and a nice hot bath with candles all around!!

  3. So sorry about this. No words for the thieves. But I know your end result will be perfect.

  4. So sorry moving all the stuff was such a debacle! What we do as a mom for our kids–ugh! Hopefully she had a great party. As for the thieves–BIG UGH to that. Pretty pathetic is all I can say–well not really but….Can’t wait to see all your hard work in the complete mode soon!! You rock!

  5. Looking forward to the unveiling! I am oh-so-close to having all of the woodworking part done on my wardrobe. Pesky sickness, overtime and unexpected invites ruined any chance of being done yesterday.

That really sucks about your tire! Note to self – in the future do anything to avoid having to cut that wire! (We almost had to once)
