Playing in the Mud – office progress

Fixing wonky walls with joint compound and skim coating.

I've been playing in the mud this week -- a lot!  I've been taping and mudding the new Recording Studio and dealing with my new office wall. The old wall was not plumb (level vertically) so I had two choices when installing the new pocket door wall that I framed:  1.  Match the wonkiness of the Continue Reading

Trimming the ends of a plank wall — in place!

Hi guys!  Remember when I built the barn door and planked the wall in my BIG hallway?  A lot of you asked what I was going to do with those ugly corners?  I said I'd deal with those later?   Well it's later!  Since I just framed in my new office and need to finish that wall, it's time to decide Continue Reading

Mission Impossible – day 5 (do or die day)!

Building a new pantry

Day 5!  This is what our new pantry looks like from the hallway. We got most of the inside drywalled yesterday.  Today we had to finish drywalling and clean this place up!  As long as things are clean when Wes gets home, he won't stress out about a project that he knew nothing about.  That's Continue Reading

Mission Impossible – Day 3

pantry remodel day 3

"The Day that Didn't" Yesterday ended after we removed all the drywall from the master bedroom wall.  But see all those electrical boxes?  There are 5!  And all of them have numerous cables running up and down and they all have to be removed before we can move on to the next phase. Madison Continue Reading

Hall Closet … yet another distraction

Hall closet

This house is all kinds of half finished projects.  I get one project to a point of somewhat functionality and then move on to another area because we've reached our tolerance threshold for the mess there.  It feels like I'm fighting a wild fire --where embers keep starting little fires all around Continue Reading

Awesome Barn Door ideas

barn door

I think I decided to go all "barn door style" on this house!  I always intended to do ONE OR TWO barn doors but the regular doors in this house are my enemy so I'm reconsidering that number.  Barn doors are so pretty and functional.  They don't take up any floor space.  They don't block your sink!   Continue Reading

House Tour – Laundry Room and Office Hallway

Laundry Room Hallway

Off the Kitchen is another hallway leading to the garage on the right.  There are 3 doors on the left which lead to a small pantry, the laundry room and a storage closet.  The office is straight ahead. The laundry Room is pretty small so there wasn't a whole lot I could do in there other than Continue Reading

House Tour – Downstairs Hallway and Powder Room

Moving back down to the first level now, we'll walk down the Hallway towards the kitchen.  Off to your right is the Powder Room (and a coat closet.) Before. New flooring, extra light, a little paint, some woodwork- and this space has a whole new look!   *My ceilings are Continue Reading

Entry Wainscoting

I wanted to brighten up this house and get rid of all of that awful orange wood.  I created this wainscoting by routering a bunch of MDF and nailing it onto the wall.  It was actually a lot of work but well worth it! I don't have enough before pictures but you can let your imagination fill in Continue Reading
