House Tour – Downstairs Hallway and Powder Room

Moving back down to the first level now, we’ll walk down the Hallway towards the kitchen.  Off to your right is the Powder Room (and a coat closet.)
Entry wainscoting
Before.

New flooring, extra light, a little paint, some woodwork- and this space has a whole new look!
White wainscoting refinished banister and stairs

*My ceilings are 9′ tall on the main level and my wainscoting is 5′ tall.  I follow the golden rule of thirds – loosely!

*I used 3/4″ MDF
*I used a router table and and Roman Ogee bit
* my rails and stiles are 4″ wide
*the base rail is 10′ tall
*I created the top moulding by combining 3 different mouldings.

Moving on.  Here is the Powder Room.

This is what it looked like before.

Yep, I got the sink and faucet from Overstock, the light from Bellacor, and the mirror from Marshall’s.

  1. Your house is beyond perfection! I am so JEALOUS :) Thanks for sharing!

  2. Those wall sconces in the hallway are great…hmm. Gives me ideas!

I'm sure you think I've gone away rudely, but instead of I've been rudely waiting to see a bunch of the house at once (I LOVE house tours … apparently I enjoy being jealous).Anyhow, so far everything looks so amazing! I adore that you've ditched the horrible "wall of glass" type mirrors in bathrooms and installed framed mirrors instead. Also, the sconce-style lights … so great! Especially since as you (or new owners, I suppose) want a bit of a change … simply switching out the chimneys or bells makes a HUGE and cheap difference! Please don't tell your Madison that I'm completely jealous of her room. :) From the flower-covered lamp to the pink and black curtains and even the little stuffed Unicorn … the only reason I'm not jogging out right NOW for a bolt of hot pink fabric is that I'm fairly sure My Guy would move out (something to keep in mind if he ticks me off, I guess :) ).p.s. I have a brand new, spare lava lamp … just sayin' … :)

  4. When I lived in Chicago back in the winter of 2000/2001 the mailman told us he wasn't going to deliver anymore until we got the sidewalk cleared. Dang landlord took 2 more weeks. So I am guessing they don't train for that around there =)

I love the wainscoting! I’m a huge fan of moldings and wainscoting and they’re actually my favorite DIY projects.
